Contemporary Visual Artist

Simon Lewis Birch is a Contemporary Visual Artist, his practice is rooted in a deep connection to the Cornish landscape, and increasingly to the birds that inhabit it—their movement, presence and song. Alongside the rugged coastline and weathered countryside, these living elements shape a dynamic, responsive relationship to place. With a background in dance and visual art, Simon approaches painting as a form of choreography: an embodied, intuitive response to space, rhythm, and energy.

Working across painting, drawing, and linoprint,  Simon selects materials that reflect the resonance and texture of the environments he engages with. His process is guided by sensory experience and emotional memory, seeking to translate not only what is seen, but what is felt. Natural elements and shifting atmospheres inform both palette and mark-making, creating work that sits between observation and abstraction.

Painting Workshop — Messengers

This workshop is inspired by my ongoing collection of paintings, Messengers – a body of work responding to birds and birdsong.

Together, we’ll explore how sound and movement, translates into mark, tone and colour. Whether your style leans towards abstraction or realism, this workshop encourages you to work in a way that feels natural and expressive to you.

Lino Cut and Printing Workshop

Spend a creative day immersed in the rewarding process of lino cutting and printing in my studio.

All materials are provided, although you’re very welcome to bring your own cutting tools if you have them. We’ll begin the morning with coffee before we start with sketching and design work inspired by the foliage in my studio garden. Together, we’ll explore expressive mark-making and how loose, observational sketches can evolve into strong lino designs.
