AUTUMN LANE
In this collection of paintings, I have attempted to capture fleeting experiences of my walk along a Cornish lane in early November. Late autumn in Cornwall can be a dynamic time due to constant weather fronts rushing in off the Atlantic. As the leaves start to fall from the trees, you see the twisted skeletal forms of the windswept tree branches that line the lanes. Light starts to seep back through the canopies that often turn the lanes into leaf-lined tunnels during the summer months.
When I walk along a country lane in Cornwall, I am always intrigued by the trees and their roots and the way they curl and twist and grasp and reach. They are like ancient mythical creatures. The hidden away lanes are so quiet and are lined with ancient trees growing out of the walls, the roots, trunks and branches twisted into windswept sculptures.
