A Blackbird Swoops Down

Inspired by blackbirds seen and heard along the Helford Estuary near Falmouth, Cornwall, this painting draws on the lush gardens that line valleys descending toward the water’s
edge. The bird is rendered almost as a Pentecostal dove from religious iconography—falling from the sky, descending to the earth carrying its message.
