Abstract Acrylic painting

This is one of my favourite small paintings. It is an abstract acrylic painting inspired by a linocut I made a few years ago called Cove. The linocut was made in response to looking over a cliff down to the beach and rocks below. This painting is similar in the way as it is an almost bird’s eye view of rocks, a cave, boats, patches of sand, a cove with a harbour and blues and turquoises of the sea. I was interested in the contrast of the blue hues and the oranges – the oranges depicting the bright colours of boats.

I have used a combination of acrylic paint, mixes of cerulean blue, burnt ochre, primary red and yellow and phthalo turquoise, as well as titanium white and mars black. The paint has been applied using different sized brushes and a silicon wedge. This painting is built up of layers which have been applied and also removed.
