BLACKBIRD LINO PRINT

Blackbird Lino print

This lino print depicts the blackbird along a lane that forms part of the Mineral Tramways trail in Cornwall. Its melodious song, together with its darting movement across the path, makes its presence strongly felt when walking along this path. This print serves as a reminder to treasure this familiar species—often taken for granted, yet now in significant decline. In London and the Southeast of the UK, blackbird numbers have fallen by approximately 40% since 2020. This decline is linked to the spread of the mosquito-borne Usutu virus, which is often fatal to blackbirds. Increased flooding and warmer temperatures in the UK are enabling virus-carrying mosquitoes to thrive and expand their range.
