FROGPOOL WALK (SOLD)

Frogpool is the name of a village in Cornwall. I love the name! Near my house I can follow footpaths to Frogpool that cross farmland and meander long old overgrown lanes. On this particular day there were long trenches of water along the track that reflected silvery light. The texture I added to the paper almost creates texture and patterning of frog skin! I like the strong diagonal in this work and its relationship to the vertical tree trunk structures.

Prior to adding any marks or paint I applied gesso and collaged on tape and paper to create texture. The fine liner marks were made on location, and on return to my studio I then added watercolour paint, mixing a variety of colours. I particularly like the way the watercolour reacts to the textured substrate. The whole process is very relaxed as the paint and ink is given its freedom, and the results can often surprise me.
