The treecreeper is seldom seen, though it is widespread across the UK. One of the species currently listed as ‘Green’ status (least concern), its population is considered stable or increasing. In folklore, the treecreeper was thought of as a tree spirit, sometimes called a “mouse bird,” its subtle presence blending seamlessly with bark and branch. Its high-pitched song has been playfully rendered into human phrase as, “I’ll come home when I want to, even if it’s dark outside at 10pm, all right.” This print reflects both the quiet elusiveness of the bird and the character suggested by its voice, capturing something of its hidden life within the texture and rhythm of the composition.
